From the barrier-free living environment ranking by the Ministry of Interior, Taipei City has rated premium and ranked country’s No.1 for the 4th consecutive times
The 2011 barrier-free living environment construction in public buildings was supervised by the Ministry of Interior. The supervising team was formed with chief director, professionals, scholars, representatives from handicapped organizations and all related personnel. From August 29th to September 14th 2011, the team has supervised 19 city and county governments in the country on-site about creating the barrier-free living environment. Taipei City has rated “premium” and ranked country’s No.1 for the 4th consecutive times.
Ministry of Interior has hosted award ceremony of “2011 barrier-free environment in public buildings selection and local governments’ promotion result of barrier-free environment in public buildings” at 2pm on December 27th. The ceremony’s located at the performing hall of APA Art Center, owned by Department of Education Promotion, Chinese Culture University. The awards are given by the deputy minister of Ministry of Interior Lin Ciling and the deputy minister of Construction and Planning Agency Su Xianmin. Taipei City was honorably awarded with the “premium” trophy and award. And the deputy minister of Department of Urban Development Bian Zishu represented to receive the honor.
The Chief of Department of Building Affairs, Wang Rongjin states that a barrier-free facility is not a decoration but a respect, caring and equal treatment from society to those who are physically challenged. Since 1995, Taipei City has been active about improving the barrier-free environment in every corner. It’s not just reorganizing the arcade buildings, all the newly constructed building have to make the barrier-free standard with no exception. The goal is to build Taipei City into a mobility-friendly city to those who are physically challenged, while following the idea of respect, caring and equal treatment.
