“The Vision of Youth, the Future of Taipei”

Taipei City warmly welcomes university students around the world to come to Taipei which would help provide fresh ideas for redefining Taipei urban space. Taipei City Government has just held a signing ceremony on April 14th of 2010, gathering university students and professors, who will participate in this program. The program is to team up students and professors domestically and from abroad together to work on creative urban planning and design to several selected sites in Taipei.

This program aims to spark students and professors' creativity, which could be applied to the designated spots in Taipei. It runs as a studio class of the university students. Each team has selected a site in Taipei as its project base and would input ideas for that site.

This kind of grant program is the first time executed by the Taipei City Government. In order to help the university teachers and students to understand the program better, the Department of Urban Development has held a seminar on January 20th of 2010, and a field trip on February 9th at designated locations, which are Gongguan area, Confucius Temple, and Nangang area. Ten universities in total in Taiwan have applied to the program.

Chosen by the government, 6 universities including National Chiao Tong University, Chinese Culture University, National Normal University, National Cheng Kung University, National Taipei University, and National Taipei University of Technology will involve in the program in 2010.

Each school addressed very creative and interesting ideas in their proposals and invited architecture-related students from foreign universities to join their teams, which include London Architectural Association School of Architecture, University California of Berkeley, University of Washington, Waseda University, and Delft University. There will be mid-term and final presentations from each team in August and November this year.
