In the face of extreme global climate change, the Taipei City Government has made efforts to promote urban sustainable development. Through mitigation and adaptation strategies, 28 units of the City have been integrated to implement the sustainable Taipei Sponge Cities and Garden Cities goals in public facilities and publicly-owned buildings, and thus far, these efforts have paid off. In addition, 33 public offices have been transformed since the Taipei City Urban Regeneration Office (TCURO) initiated urban regeneration of public offices in 2010. Among these, 16 buildings applied for the EEWH, signifying a carbon reduction equivalent to 3 Da’an Forest Parks. In other words, the capacity incentive has delivered results in sustainable development.
To accelerate Taipei City's city transformation, the greening project began working with the public sector and has expanded its scope to the private sector. The greening of building roof terrace and façades greening capacity incentive provides that, as long as the green covered area is at least 1.6 times the green coverage stipulated in Article 5 of the Implementation Rules Governing Taipei City Greening for New Buildings for all buildings, and if the vertical green coverage of the roof terrace and façade accounts for at least 1/2 of the total green area, incentives of 2%, 3% and 4% of the benchmark volume will be granted. In addition, under the principle of non-duplication of the green volume index of the EEWH incentive, two awards can be applied for at the same time. This is an important milestone for the promotion of a zero carbon city.
Mayor Ko Wen-je said that Taipei City will fulfill its responsibilities as a global citizen to meet international carbon reduction requirements. The City is striving for the goal of net zero by 2050, hoping to become a sustainable city that is refreshing, comfortable, and relaxing to live in.
