Diverse urban regeneration results in new opportunity to renovate and maintain old buildings
Deputy Mayor Chang of the Taipei City Government recently toured the urban regeneration case on Section 4 of Zhong Xiao East Road. He said that renovation and maintenance efforts made by the Urban Regeneration office not only takes public safety into priority, but also provides a new opportunity to refurbish and sustain old buildings.
Urban Regeneration Office stated that there are three types of methods in urban regeneration, which include reconstruction, renovation and maintenance. The purposes of renovating and maintaining these structures are to encourage residents to facilitate building self-repair, to continue the life cycle of old buildings, to implement urban renewal to improve the living environment and to promote public interest. Since the renovation subsidy policies in promoting the maintenance in 2006, the residents have been enthusiastic. So far, 108 subsidy cases have been approved. The first phase of implementation is to promote the renovation on the building facades, which successfully prompted the development of quality improvement in the surrounding areas, and raised public awareness for renovation.
Ever since 2010, the “second generational renovation” not only expanded its area, but also added in elevators in old apartments to help the elderly or the disabled with more ease in accessibility. Urban Regeneration Office is also promoting the regeneration efforts of archaic old buildings by adding them into the creative cultural industry. It is inviting a foundation to act as a supporting role so that this non-profit organization can assist in the communication process between public and private sectors. Under the government promotion of renovation and maintenance policies, it helps not only construct a diverse cognition and conception of urban regeneration for the residents, but also support the development of the renovation and maintenance industry.
The renovation and maintenance policy provides a safer and easier option of urban regeneration. Situations such as exterior wall tiles falling, messy pipes, old doors and windows and serious leakages will be totally improved through the renovation and maintenance process. This not only improves the urban landscape and quality of living, but also enhances public safety and building performance. The case mentioned in the first paragraph shows that all the stakeholders, including residents, executers and Urban Regeneration Office all win at the same time, because of high willingness to cooperate and finish until completion.
Urban Regeneration renovation subsidies case will be effective starting in April, welcoming residents to actively apply. For more information, please go to www.uro.gov.tw or call 02-23215696.
