A comprehensive view of Taipei’s topography transformation – the Detailed Terrain Model is officially online
In recent years, as the information system, technology and measurements have been improving, the spatial information system has also been developing from 2D geographical system into a more comprehensive growth of a 3D geographical system. It is currently a researched hot topic for its recording purpose in digital urban transformation strategy and application.
The Department of Urban Development is using the most advanced topographic technique, allowing a complete mapping data record which shows a comprehensive urban landscape. The results show accurate spatial information, which reduces the risk of mapping diagram. Foundational mapping data engineering has two-year duration for processing revision. The residents can use Taipei historical data mapping system by going on http://www.historygis.udd.taipei.gov.tw (Chinese), to download appropriate yearly digital topographical maps, aerial image maps and historical analogical maps. This saves time as the residents no longer have to come in to the City Hall to obtain actual digital maps. The applicants can now apply online on http://www.map.udd.taipei.gov.tw/ (Chinese), and will be able to download image after payment.
Detailed Terrain Model is an important outcome of mapping data set-up. It uses a digital method to show 3D spatial topography transformation. Other than being able to apply in land planning, it is also widely used in technology and construction, which have extremely high application value.
Ben Tai-Ming, the commissioner at the Department of Urban Development, explained that the historical mapping data system provides all kinds of mapping browsing services. It uses the most advanced “Lidar” technology to set up a Detailed Terrain Model Wash-Off Relief Map, in order to expand this value-added service. The map uses one-meter interval in order to show an even more detailed terrain.
Detailed Terrain Model Wash-Off Relief Map is officially online, welcome residents to make full use of it and understand their current home and natural environment in a whole new digital way.
