It has been more than 30 years since the announcement of the Taipei’s Urban Design System in the planning case “Xinyi Plan – A Substitute Downtown”. Taipei Urban Design Center(TUDC) has been established for the purpose of promoting Taipei’s urban design and its implementations. By doing so, it shows the past experiences in urban design and promotes the vision of urban development. The TUDC will be the platform for communications and idea exchanges between the public, government and academia.
The center is the feedback building from the case “Zhongtai Dunbei Financial Service Precinct”. The land area of the building is 1,406.18 m2 (which is 425.37 pyeong). It’s a 2 story building with a basement, and the ground floor is used as the village office and the basement is used as the TUDC and Community Center.
The TUDC is located within the park area of Fuxing North Road, Changchun Road and Qingcheng Street. It is located next to the financial district of Dunhua North Road, office district of NanJing East Road and the Taipei Metro Nanjing East Road Station, so it has a location advantage. The Department of Urban Development has commissioned Chinese Institute of Urban Design (CIUD) to manage and plan TUDC as an activity center and advocacy center, and strengthen the communication between the academia and the public to reach the triple-win goal for the government, academia and the public.
The implementation processes for 2013 are: one opening exhibition, one theme exhibition, five speeches or workshops, and two seminars during April and May. The themes of the exhibitions are “Urban Design Taipei: Taipei City Urban Design Retrospective Exhibition”, “Taipei City Urban Design and Urban Design Consideration”, “Urban Design Education”, “Important Cases on Taipei City Urban Design” and so on. The CIUD has also been commissioned to set up reading spaces and information windows – BLOG (http://tpudc.blogspot.tw/p/about-us.html) and so on.
