Taipei Historical Geographic Information System is a system that provides map and video of different periods. It brings the viewers the memories of landscape of different periods. The system provides four ways of positioning, which includes administrative region positioning, house number positioning, landmark positioning and cadastral information positioning. These provide users an easier way to look up information. The system also assists the public to understand the information and condition of their living environment.
According to the Department of Urban Development (UDD) of the Taipei City Government, the page view of the system has gone over ten thousand in a very short period of time. The public can browse the map and video data through links from online news or relevant websites. The system has brought reminiscences to the viewers as it provides many nostalgic image and video data. The system has been improved based on many valuable suggestions provided by the users. UDD hopes that the system can provide academia, public sectors and the public with more Taipei City’s spatial information as the public continue to contribute and commit to it.
