Fighting Climate Change, Existing Building Health Check Begins
Taipei City has a forest of skyscrapers and a serious effect from the urban heating island effect, so the temperature during summer is always high. Older buildings usually exceed their terms of use and end up wasting energy. Thus Taipei City Government especially established Energy Saving Feng Shui Service Group in 2006. The group began giving free health check to all existing buildings.
Director of Construction Management Office Gangwei Zhang states that the Energy Saving Feng Shui Service Group gives building health check under four categories: environmental protection of the building, energy saving of the building, waste reduction of the building, and the interior environment of the building. Community buildings will be diagnosed and given improvement advices. Community managers just need to apply and go through a public evaluation to receive the building diagnosis and further green building improving advice from the service group. According to the statistics, buildings can save 30% or more energy after receiving improvement from the service group.
Gangwei Zhang further states that the public seminar of “Community Buildings Green Building renewal Diagnosis and Improvement Evaluation” of this year was held at the Civil Service Development Institute (No. 30, Sec. 3, Xingsheng S. Rd., Da’an Dist., Taipei City 106) from 9:30 to 12:00 on September 5th. The seminar ended in great success. We wish all community can apply for the health check. Community evaluated to have great benefit from improvement will receive immediate health check from the Energy Saving Feng Shui Service Group. The service group will provide improvement advices according to the community environment, public energy usage, recycle and waste collection location, and interior environment. Thus the community can have better living environment while saving money from an energy efficient environment. We can also do our parts in fighting climate change and saving earth. Furthermore, the Construction Management Office is also researching the possibility of subsidy and the application process. We hope to increase communities’ interest in community renewal.
