An opening ceremony for the Taipei Urban Design Center (TUDC) was held by the Department of Urban Development of Taipei City Government (UDD) at 1F, No.2, Lane 339, Changchun Road, Taipei City on August 3rd (Sat.) at 3:30pm. The opening ceremony was hosted by Hsueh Hsiang-Chuan, the Deputy Secretary-General of Taipei City Government. Others who were invited included past UDD commissioners, urban design council committees, urban planning & urban regeneration council committees, professionals and scholars. The ceremony ended successfully at 6 pm.
Deputy Secretary-General Hsueh said that the measures of Taipei Urban Design evolved from the planning case “Xinyi Plan – A Substitute Downtown” 30 years ago. TUDC was established for the purpose of promoting Taipei’s urban design and its implementations; it shows the past experiences in urban design and promotes the vision of urban development. TUDC will be the platform for communications and idea exchanges among the public, government and academia. It will also help to manage the database of Taipei’s urban development and urban design, and allow the public to access data from the database. Hopefully, it will be an important foundation for urban environment and design.
Tai-Ming Ben, the current commissioner of UDD, said that the center is the feedback building from the case “Zhongtai Dunbei Financial Service Precinct.” The Department has commissioned the Chinese Institute of Urban Design (CIUD) to manage and plan the TUDC, as well as its core business after its establishment, such as exhibitions and other relevant events. The TUDC will also invite professionals and scholars to have discussions and idea exchanges with the public. Together with the 20th Anniversary of UDD and the opening of TUDC, the Department plans to host a "Taipei Urban Design Retrospective" exhibition. The exhibition will be open every day from 10am until 5pm, lasting from Saturday, August 3rd to Sunday, October 20th. Everyone is welcome to visit the exhibition.
