Discovering the beauty of alleyways: Dadaocheng opens up its workshop in the alleyways
Efforts made by several sectors and the Taipei City Government have transformed the Di-Hua Old Street into a charming area that attracts both visitors and youngsters alike. The Urban Regeneration Office hopes to reveal the multi-faceted features of this area. On Saturday, 3/1/2014, there will be a tea party in the alleyways of Di-Hua Street, welcoming all residents to participate!
In recent years, Di-Hua Street is once again becoming a tourist hot spot due to overall collaboration of local businesses, cultural workers as well as policy changes. The majority of the tourists come to the main street as it is the most renovated part of the whole area, which leads to fewer tourists to the alleyways. However, this commercial area has numerous old-school architectures and creative cultural shops that are present in the alleyways, waiting to be explored.
Facing this problem, more than 50 locals have formed an “alleyway team” to declare and to revitalize the businesses and cultures in the alleyways. The team captain, Mr. Chiu, has expressed that the establishment of this team, which consists of three generations of locals, will not only make a statement in the area but also continues its cultural heritage to allow visitors find out more discoveries and stories abundant in the alleyways.
Urban Regeneration Office has stated that the “Workshops in the Alleyways” not only provides entertainment for the residents, but also aims to continue its plentiful programs in arts, community conversations and different forums. The team is promoting the whole Dadaocheng area to become a platform of local resources to bring in tourism, creative energy, community services and arts. This way the area potential will be realized and the stories in the alleyways will be discovered.
The alleyway workshop is located on No. 16, Lane. 46., Sec. 1, DiHua Street, welcoming residents to participate. For more information please check out www.urstaipei.net or call Ms. Chen at 2325-3967.
