In order to implement carbon reduction and the improvement of the city view, Taipei City has been greening and beautifying construction sites since July 2009. The ugly duckling has grown into a beautiful swan. Commissioner of the Urban Development Department, Yuh-Chyurn, Ding stated that the policy was made to reduce the impact to city views and living environment during construction. Taipei City regulates that the fences of construction site must be greened or beautified with painting, canvas, stickers or green plants. A construction site is required to have over 50% land greened if it is adjacent to a road longer than 10 meters, park, green land, square or area, as announced by the authorities. Building developers definitely have their part to play in contributing the environment landscape. Taipei City hopes to encourage building developers to start decorating the construction sites, through the construction site policy. The cold, hard and disturbing construction can start having a friendly and beautiful appearance to the citizens.
The total greened area of construction sites in Taipei City is 6,222 square meters, which is like adding 9.6 small neighborhood parks. 622 tons of carbon emission is also reduced. In order to encourage building developers to raise the beauty standard of the City and reduce carbon emissions, Taipei City Government and The Real Estate Development Association of Taipei have held three Construction Site Fence Awards since 2010. The result for the fourth award is expected to be released in October. Taipei City Government hopes to praise construction sites that put in great effort on creating greened and beautiful fences with the award. The standard for greening and beautifying construction site fences can then be raised.
