Nangang Xiude public housing community redevelopment project held a completion ceremony today. It is Taipei City Government’s first completed redevelopment project on buildings built with sea sand. It also sets an example on successful urban redevelopment and shows TCG’s strong determination on urban redevelopment.
Urban Redevelopment Office, Taipei City states that the project is located on the Nangan district’s Dongxin Street, which is right across from the Xiude elementary school. There were 266 households before the redevelopment. It was originally a public housing community constructed by the TCG. However, the community was inspected as concrete buildings with high concentration of chloride ion after the 921 earthquake. The community then formed a rebuild committee right away and started looking for a rebuild. With over 95% of households’ agreement and principle of original household to the original location, TCG gave their help on the rebuild through urban redevelopment. TCG’s assistance include the highest 30% building volume bonus on buildings built with sea sand, providing the nearby keelung river housing for residents during the rebuild, solving the transportation and school enrollment issues for those with school-age children, speeding up the administrative process, etc. During the whole redevelopment, TCG was active on things like designating redevelopment unit, speeding up administrative process and issuing permits. Finally the whole construction started on September 26th 2009 and made completion today.
Looking back on the rebuild process of Xiude public housing community redevelopment project, TCG showed their biggest sincerity and actions to help the residents from the community through urban redevelopment. The rebuild did not only reform the urban landscape of Nangan, it also improved residents’ living quality and environment. The project successfully created a win-win situation between the citizens and the Taipei City Government.
