Taipei Urban Redevelopment Center is now a year old! It will provide the public with a better urban renewal instruction
In order to unblock the bottleneck of current urban renewal, Taipei City Government has established Taipei Urban Redevelopment Center (TURC) in October 2012, and this TURC is now one year old. The purposes of this center are to provide professional techniques to assist urban renewal of the communities, encourage private sectors to build their own renewal modes and assist renewal of the exterior of the houses and the houses built with cheap, unreliable concrete which contains a high quantity of sea sand.
As of September 30th 2013, TURC has assisted 53 houses built with cheap, unreliable concrete and more than 10 communities in urban renewal. They have also solved 384 inquiry cases for the public. It’s been providing the public with the newest updated information and the direction of urban renewal.
Besides assisting urban renewal for the communities, TURC has collaborated and established a financial platform with 10 financial cooperatives. They hoped by doing so, financial issues will be solved during the process of urban renewal.
TURC not only helps the communities to reach a consensus, but it also tries to provide a better and broader services by establishing a professional service platform with eight urban renewal guilds.
There are still many issues – as well as a lack of transparency – existing in current urban renewal process. TURC is providing a justified third-party negotiation platform, and the purpose of this platform is to solve the cases involving stalemate between implementers and landowners. It creates new ways of communication by proposing different approaches to implementers, landowners and the review committee.
The services offered by the TURC are to clarify urban renewal conditions, lower the difficulty for urban renewal, provide more urban renewal choices for the public, increase transparency in urban renewal processes and make a more robust urban renewal mechanism. For anyone who is interested in this subject or has any questions, please visit TURC (1F, No. 59, Section 1, Heping West Rd, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City (Close to Exit 8 of MRT Guting Station)) or call (02)2392 -2910.
