Great Accomplishment! Taipei City Government’s Gungguan Riverside Integrated Development Plan has been awarded with “FIABCI Prix d’Excellence Awards 2012”
Taipei City Government’s Gungguan Riverside Integrated Development Plan has been awarded with the Runner Up of “Public Infrastructure/ Amenities Category, FIABCI Prix d’Excellence Awards 2012” The award ceremony was held at Saint Petersburg, Russia at 7pm on May 15th, 2012. Taipei City’s Secretary General, Mr. Yongren Chen, represented Taipei City Government to accept the award. Gungguan Riverside Integrated Development Plan has once been awarded with “Excellent Environment and Culture, FIABCI-Taiwan Real Estate Excellence Award 2011”, the highest award it can obtain in the nation. It was then recommended to compete with other outstanding projects through out the world in “FIABCI Prix d’Excellence Awards 2012” and has been awarded with the Runner Up of “Public Infrastructure/ Amenities Category”.
Taipei City Government has been working to build a livable city diligently in recent years. In order to provide citizens a brand new landscape, the Gungguan Riverside Integrated Development Plan started off toward the last phase of the Tamsui Riverside Project in 2008. Gungguan Riverside Integrated Development Plan focuses on three main axes: improving pedestrian and automobile route, improving physical space, and promoting software in different phases over the year. The development plan was proposed and carried out according to its local characteristics, developing advantage, and restrictions. Core constructions include: connecting bike route at the riverside, widening the pedestrian space and create a pedestrian system, building the Hakka Themed Area, setting up a cross river platform, modifying the three-dimensional public art in Suiyuan Market, constructing Treasure Hill Art Village, and organizing the riverside square. A series of events was held with collaboration of the nearby commercial area. Then a city touring plan was made in a new and unique way to recreate Gungguan into a brand new water touring spot in the southern Taipei. In order to connect these commercial events to the waterfront area, TCG held counseling for commercial area for software promotion. They hope to make Gungguan an important leisure activity area for the citizens. Bringing citizens back to the river side not only raises the complete environmental quality but also promotes the development of the local tourism.
The development plan has completed more than twenty short and midterm project during the time period of 2008-2010. The involved executive agencies include departments of transportation, urban development, public works, culture affairs, water, education, and civil affairs. The follow-up long term project will include constructions along the MRT route, release of public lands, and creation of urban natural parks to complete the entire Gungguan reform plan. To date, the plan has received numerous recognitions from Taipei citizens. Taipei City Government will spread the success of the Gungguan Riverside Integrated Development Plan to other waterfront areas in Taipei to create a diverse and sustainable urban activity area for citizens. They will also continue to improve Taipei’s public facilities and city landscapes. TCG dedicates to introduce Taipei to the world and allow the world to embrace Taipei.
